Sunderland have signed Kyrgiakos on loan

Sunderland have signed defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos on loan from VfL Wolfsburg until the end of the season. Martin O'Neill's, coach of the British team stated that "Sotirios offers a real physical presence, coupled with a wealth of experience, which will be an undoubted benefit to us. I'm delighted to welcome him to the club and I'm sure he is looking forward to the challenge of returning to the Premier League."

Sotos Statement

I was surprised when I heard Mr. Apostolopoulos’s, claimed to be my manager, statement. The truth is that the last few years I don’t have a manager and Mr. Apostolopoulos never had been my manager. And he couldn’t be my manager someone that talks about the interest of other teams so easy. I was never interested in such things.

What it counts for me is my work. And I don’t get into such games. Thus I don’t allow anybody else to do it.

Skrtel: I want to be like Soto

Martin Skrtel is eager to learn from Sotirios Kyrgiakos when it comes to scoring goals.
The 26-year-old thinks his defensive colleague is the best header of the ball at Anfield - if not throughout the entire Barclays Premier League.

And he hopes Kyrgiakos's abilities in opponents' penalty areas will rub off.
Skrtel told Liverpoolfc.tv: "I think he's dangerous for every single set play, every single corner and free-kick. I think he's absolutely No.1 in the air at our club and maybe in the Premier League.

Roy hails award winner Soto

Roy Hodgson today commended the decision of fans to award Sotirios Kyrgiakos the Standard Chartered LFC Player of the Month for October.

The Greek defender tallied 61 per cent of your vote on this website following a string of imperious displays at the back.

He made five appearances throughout a month in which the Reds returned to form, scoring in the victory over Blackburn.
